Formed in 1999, NYC’s BRAND NEW IDOL is the brainchild of brothers Kris and Tim Heireth, founding members of the internationally acclaimed synthpop band Joy Machine. Drawing from an extensive list of influences, their sound is best described as a smart and witty blend of melodic synthpop and darkwave grind with a quirky dance floor sensibility all it’s own. With Tim on lead vocals/synths, Kris on synths/vocals and V. Nigel Taylor on bass guitar/vocals, BNI has a well earned reputation for gritty, unique, uncompromising music as well as an energetic, highly engaging live show.
BNI have performed at large festivals including both 2007 Spring (Headliner) and Fall DarkStar Festivals (CT) and The 2004 New York Synthpop Festival. In addition, BNI has headlined large club events including BYTE (NYC), and Rare (NYC). Some of the notable acts they performed shows with include Iris, Psyche, The Birthday Massacre, Freezepop, Otto’s Daughter, Code 64, Reaper, and Frozen Plasma.
